WHAT IS COUNSELLING?
Professional counsellors are trained to help you resolve personal difficulties in a positive and thoughtful way. Anyone can seek out a counsellor for help, without needing a referral from their GP.
Registered counsellors are qualified professionals committed to meeting the high standards and code of ethics set by the governing body, Australian Counselling Association (ACA).
OUR APPROACH
We will work with you to develop a way forward that recognises your goals, your strengths and your needs. Our aim is to achieve a sustainable outcome through strategies which suit you, and which are consistent with your choices.
You have a choice in your therapy at all times. If your needs are complex or specific and we are unable to help you, we will refer you to an alternative source. Sometimes, we work collaboratively to best meet your needs through counselling in combination with other practices and services.
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM US
The first contact is over the phone. Counselling is a deeply personal journey and good therapy will only happen if you feel comfortable with your therapist. We offer a short, free consultation to discuss what you'd like help with, and whether our approach could meet your needs.
The first session is longer than usual to allow time for a thorough assessment in order to understand your history and circumstances, as well as begin the conversation that will start you on the journey you want to be on. We want you to take away value from the very first session.
The structure, frequency and duration of remaining sessions will depend on your needs and circumstances. We are flexible and tailor therapy programs around each unique individual. We draw from a number of approaches, including;
Behavioural and thought pattern intervention
Relaxation techniques
Mindfulness strategies
Coping strategies and skills training
Anger management
Communication and social skills
Interpersonal therapy
Parenting skills and counselling
